Sheep
The sheep have lived on the ranch the longest. We have 2 sheep remaining from the original herd. Mama sheep, is the matriarch of Strawberry moon and generally in charge. Mama likes order. She wants everyone to be where they are supposed to be and doing what is expected of them at all times. She is a Jacobs sheep. Spotty is her son and is a Jacobs and Icelandic cross. He is a big boy with a tender heart. The sheep are sheared once a year in May or June. We have entire fleece availabe, what is referred to as “in the grease”. Which means it is just like when it came off the sheep, dirty, greasy, and with a few blackberry brambles mixed in. Some people like wool in this form to experience the homesteader lifestyle of processing it themselves from start to finish. We will offer other wool products when we figure out how to process it that is not so labor intensive that we would have to sell it for a million dollars to make it worthwhile. Meanwhile Rowan is learning all about wool. Stay tuned. If you are interested in an entire fleece, email for more information.

Chickens
We currently have 2 flocks of chickens, the Eastside Chicks and the Deco Chicks. We have a combination of Buff and Lavender Orpingtons, Red Blue Lace Wyandottes, Easter Eggers, and Barnavelders. We have fresh pasture raised eggs available. Email for information. We feed our animals all organic, high quality feed made by Scratch and Peck or Bar Ale. They also eat plants and insects they come across naturally in our pasture. We don’t apply chemicals of any sort to our pasture. We are very small and are currently not certified organic.
Later this season we will have Wyandotte hatch eggs available. The rooster in the photo is our Wyandotte rooster. His name is Lil Ru Paul. He’s a colorful, beautiful, fancy boy.
Turkeys
We raise Heritage Blue Slate Turkeys. We currently have a very small flock of turkeys. Our long range goal is to have 3 separate groups and to establish a breeding program to promote and propagate this exquisite bird. They are beautiful and sensitive. They are very bonded as a flock and are a wonderful addition to the ranch.
We offer “hatch eggs” which are fertile eggs that can be hatched in an incubator. We will be adding to the blog soon with some information and videos on hatch eggs. (Our 2025 turkey hatch eggs are all reserved, check in January 2026 for next season)
To find out more about our turkeys you can read about “Tatiana’s Epic Love Story” in our ‘blog” section.
Ducks
We have Cayuga and Buff ducks. They are a delight to sit and watch. We have learned the different tones and moods expressed by their near constant quacking. Our ducks love water, of course. we are working to engineer them a bigger pond. They are the most labor intensive of all of our animals but well worth the effort. We have pasture eggs available. Email for information.
*The ducks in the photo are not in the pasture because they have new babies. They are in the brooder to keep the babies safe from predators. It’s like Fort Knox in there! No one gets in, no one gets out! At 2 months they move out to the pasture and have free access to an acre of pasture. They go in a safe space at night, then the dogs come out and patrol the pasture.
Dogs
We have 2 Livestock guardian dogs who watch over all of us. These are the absolute smartest dogs we have ever had the pleasure of working with. They are bold and beautiful and have keen senses of humor. At times they think things are funny that we don’t think are so funny. They find each other hilarious.
Cats
Our cat friends have an important function here. They are beautiful and graceful plus they keep the house and cabin free of mice and other small intruders. We have three cats. Two of them agree that the dogs are hilarious and one thinks they are not amusing whatsoever.
Goats
The goats are even funnier than the dogs. They amuse themselves by trying to open the gate and going on forbidden adventures. They like to eat the barn and they really enjoy parties. They are the most outgoing of us here at Strawberry moon ranch.
Our goats are dairy goats and we currently have enough milk to supply our family. We will expand slowly and in late 2026 may have milk and fancy cheese to offer.
